MPs from Maharashtra demand new trains for state

MPs from western Maharashtra have demanded new trains and better connectivity within the state in the upcoming union railway budget.

The members of parliament (MPs) from western Maharashtra have demanded new trains and better connectivity within the state in the upcoming union railway budget. Supriya Sule from Baramati constituency, Raju Shetty from Hatkanangale Kolhapur, Bhausaheb Wakchaure from Shirdi constituency and  Rajya Sabha MP Ranjitsinh Mohite- Patil attended a meeting with the central railway officials, including its general manager Subodh Jain, at Alpabachat Bhavan on Wednesday.

However, Pune’s MP Suresh Kalmadi was not present at the meeting.

Sule demanded that the Pune-Delhi Duronto train should be made daily and the Pune-Haridwar express, announced a couple of years ago, should be started soon. She also demanded upgradation of Pune, Baramati, Daund and Nira railway stations.

Raju Shetty said, “Electrification work of Pune-Kolhapur route should be done soon so that the shuttle service can be extended from Pune to Kolhapur. Railway stations in Sangli does not have basic infrastructure and fertilizers kept at the stations for transportation get damaged.” Shetty also demanded daily trains from Kolhapur to Chennai and Nagpur. “I will be keeping a track of the suggestions given to the railway authorities,” he said.

Jain said, “The suggestions given by MPs will be forwarded to the railway board in Delhi.”
