A week after printed ticket rolls were stolen from the printing press at Mahalakshmi, the railway police on Saturday arrested a 23-year-old trying to run away with Rs8,000 cash from a railway booking office at Vasai Road.

According to the Railway Protection Force, the accused Rakesh Shrivastav, a resident of Andheri who works as a waiter, tried to run away with cash worth Rs 8,000 from the booking office located in Vasai (west) during the lunch hour.

The booking clerk in charge, Kajal Makwana, spotted the accused Shrivastav escaping with cash and alerted the police. Two constables then chased the accused and nabbed him on platform No 1.

The police has recovered the stolen booty and are investigating whether Shrivastav has been involved in similar robberies in the past.
