For seven months, a Grant Road resident used to appear in court posing as his younger brother, who was accused in a case.

But this sibling love did not go down with the Girgaum metropolitan magistrate's court which filed a complaint against both the brothers with the DB Marg police station.

The police recently arrested Chintamani, 58, and Kamlaprasad Gupta, 57, for misleading the court.

According to the police, Kamlaprasad runs a Raj Palace Bar and Restaurant in Grant Road.

On February, 28, the police had raided Kamlaprasad's bar and found some violations. But, the police let Kamlaprasad off after penalising him.

As a case was registered in this regard, the matter came in the Girgaum metropolitan magistrate's court for hearing in March.

“Since March 14 until October 7, Chintamani used to appear for the court hearings posing as Kamlaprasad. Recently, when the case was being heard in court, a person who was known to the brothers called out to Chintamani by his name,” said an officer from the DB Marg police station.

“The court staff got suspicious and after making enquiries the judicial clerk Shekhar Mane lodged a police complaint against the two brothers for misleading the court," the officer added.

The brothers were arrested, but later released on bail.
