Police officials were shocked when Vijay Gausar, 38, walked into the Mira Road police station on Friday afternoon and announced that he had killed a bar girl following an argument.

Assistant inspector Anand Khobre and his team rushed to Royal Palace building at Shanti Park and found 28-year-old Kanchan alias Kamlesh Raj’s body in flat number 102.

Gausar runs a plastic manufacturing company on contract basis in Vasai and lives in building number 85 at Shanti Park with his wife and parents.

In his statement to the police, Gausar said that he often went to Bindiya Bar, where Kanchan worked as a bar girl. He reportedly spent lakhs of rupees on Kanchan and befriended her.

On Thursday night, after downing a few drinks at the bar Vijay went to Kanchan’s flat and demanded to have sex. When Kanchan refused, they started arguing. In a fit of rage, Gausar, who was drunk, strangled her.

Gausar told the police that he does not remember what happened next. When he woke up the next morning, he found her dead and panicked. He then decided to surrender to the police.

“We’ve booked Gausar for murder and will produce him before the Thane sessions court on Saturday,” said Khobre, investigator in the case.
