Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan today said the state government has not given tax relief to IPL and the issue is still under consideration.

Speaking to reporters at Pandharpur today, Chavan said that though the state government has not imposed entertainment tax on IPL cricket, it does not not mean that the government has given tax relief.

"Whether to impose entertainment tax on IPL or not is still under consideration and after an in-depth study, the government will take a decision", he said.

State finance minister Sunil Tatkare of Nationalist Congress Party had earlier said that the government had no plans to tax IPL. However, the chief minister had contradicted him by saying that entertainment tax would be imposed on IPL matches.

The IPL tournament started yesterday with first two matches having been staged in Mumbai but the government has not made any announcement with regard to tax.

Meanwhile, referring to investigations in Pune blast case, Chavan merely said that the probe was going on and that he could not give any time limit within which it would be completed.
