A record 43,592 cases were solved in the Mahalokadalat conducted at the district court in Pune on Sunday, including criminal, civil, family, accident claims and pre-litgation cases. Around 76,000 cases were filed before the body.

This was the first time that cases of land acquisition came up for hearing in front of the Mahalokadat.

In an interesting case, a matter involving a couple, who have been separated for the last four years, was resolved by the Mahalokadalat. Apparently, the couple had filed for a divorce, but decided to forget the past and get back together for the well-being of their children.

Talking to DNA, the couple said, “We had come with the mind to get divorced, but thanks to our children and their advice, we decided against it.”

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation also settled seven out of nine cases and paid compensation of Rs27.25 lakh to the relatives of those people who were either killed or injured in mishaps involving their buses.

The Mahalokadalat was kicked off by two senior citizens — Somaji Raoji Modak, 80, a resident of Wadaki and Rajana Ankush Dumal, 67, a resident of Kunjirwadi. Both had filed cases of land acquisition 15 years back.

Around 100 students from the Bharati Vidyapeeth New Law College and MMCC Law College were panel members for this exercise.

Cases solved by the Mahalokadalat not only saves time and money of the litigants, but also helps in reducing stress.
