MahaDiscom has decided not to repair the damaged transformers of its divisions having commercial and distribution losses above 45%.

The recent decision, dated November 8, is part of the MahaDiscom’s view of “strong action against the defaulters and relief for honest payers”. The decision is applicable to the MahaDiscom’s divisions falling in the category E and F.

The MahaDiscom has six divisions according to the distribution and commercial losses namely A (0 to 18% losses), B (18-26%), C (26-34%), D (34-42%), E (42-50%) and F (above 50%).

The damaged transformers in the E and F category divisions will be repaired only after collection of 80% of the total outstanding electricity bills.

“The officers repairing the damaged transformers of the E and F category divisions before collection of 80% dues will be punished. While, on other hand, the officers who are not repairing the damaged transformers even after the collection of 80% of the dues will equally face stern action,” an officer from MahaDiscom told DNA.

The MahaDiscom circular said that the repair of the transformers of E and F categories is injustice for the prompt customers.

There are 147 divisions of the MahaDiscom in the state of which eight are in E category, while 15 are in F category.

Most of these are agriculture dominant areas. In fact, the total dues of the agriculture sector in the state is Rs6,000 crore.

The MahaDiscom, since April 2011, introduced the Krishi Sanjivani scheme through which the fine and interest is waved off if the farmers pay the principal amount of the due bill in single installment.

However, so far Rs154 crore have been paid by the defaulters. There are 35 lakh agriculture pumps in the state.

“Therefore, the MahaDiscom had decided to go strict on the E and F category divisions,” the officers said.
