Three sons of Additional Director General of Police PT Lohar are yet again in the limelight for their alleged involvement in the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) scam.

A case is already pending against Nitin, Sunil and Manoj in the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for their alleged role in the 1998 MPSC scam, currently being probed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police RG Pardeshi.

ACB sources said the MPSC exam paper replacement scam was unearthed in 2002, but names of the Lohars surfaced only in 2004. Though their involvement was part of the main investigation, the trio’s case was referred to another ACB officer. There is no progress in the investigation since then.

The Lohars’ role once again came under scanner after Seema Damdhere, the then MPSC secretary, in her statement given to the ACB on December 17 challenged their  appointment as deputy superintendent of police.

ACB sources said Damdhere alleged that Hinduja College Principal Tukaram Shiware, who was recently arrested by the ACB, tampered and forged the exam results and replaced the viva mark sheet for the Lohars.

Damdhere has submitted evidence pertaining to the matter. Later, handwriting experts confirmed that altered documents were written by Shiware and his associates.

Damdhere said such alterations and replacements were a common practice in MPSC exams held between 1998 and 2001 for the post of DySP.

The sessions court had granted interim relief to the Lohars till January 17 and directed the investigating agency not to arrest the three till the next hearing. The Lohars have already filed an anticipatory bail application on January 12 in the Sessions Court.
