A 27-year-old man, who set ablaze his wife and a two-year-old son by pouring kerosene over them before attempting suicide on Saturday night at their house in Panchsheel chawl in Kashimira, died on Sunday afternoon.

The police said the boy was charred to death on the spot, while the couple was rushed to Bhagwati Hospital. The woman breathed her last within minutes after reaching the hospital.

According to the police, Somnath Sambha Tayde (27) was living in Panchsheel chawl, along with his wife Veena (22) and son Vikas. On Saturday evening, the couple had a fight over a domestic issue. During the quarrel, Somnath flew into rage and set his wife and son on fire. Neighbours broke open the door of Tayde’s house and doused the fire by pouring water.

However, it was too late as little Vikas was already charred to death. Veena, who received 90% burns, and Somnath who had 65% burns, were rushed to the Bhagwati hospital.

Speaking to DNA, senior inspector of Kashimira police station Anil Patil said, “Preliminary investigations have revealed that the couple used to have fight over family matter but the reason of this incident is yet to be ascertained.”

Sudhakar Yadav, a police sub inspector, who was present in the hospital confirmed Veena’s death.
