On the 75th anniversary of its foundation, Khalsa College is launching a month-long platinum jubilee celebration, starting off with a grand event on Monday as thousands of students will release 10,000 hydrogen balloons into the sky to mark the
occasion.

All staff members and students of the college, which was founded by Dr Ambedkar in 1937, will be clad in white and will assemble in four separate locations around the college. The assembly has been planned such that the main road outside the college is left clear and traffic isn’t disrupted.

Each of the four groups will represent a theme of contemporary relevance — global brotherhood, environment protection, women’s empowerment and the fight against corruption. Displaying placards with slogans based on their theme, the students will walk silently towards the college quadrangle.

The administrative staff, who will be wearing conventional Maharashtrian turbans, will welcome them.

Next, the college music club will lead the crowd in the college’s official prayer song, followed by a welcome dance and a prayer dance. Five priests, representing the Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Christian and Zoroastrian religions, will say their individual prayers and ask for blessings for the college, meant to signify the secular attitude of this minority college.

Principal Dr Ajit singh and the chairman of LMC, Gurinder Singh Bawa will let a white dove free signifying the principles of the college, including the freedom of young minds.
