HR College of Commerce and Economics at Churchgate is busy preparing to impress 1,000 children of the top 20 schools across the city.

The students of Classes 8 to 12 will be visiting the college on January 28 for a special event — “Welcome the Class of 2017”, where they will be given the necessary information on courses in the commerce stream that are available at the graduation level and the subsequent job opportunities in the field.

The college will encourage preteens to take up commerce as a career and HR as its first choice by explaining to them the various avenues in this stream. Parents have also been invited for the event. Principal and sheriff of Mumbai, Dr Indu Shahani told DNA, “Students often don't know what to choose and which college to join. I encounter many youngsters who choose the wrong course, and later regret their decision and change their streams.”

Dr Shahani said that this is a one-of-a-kind event that is being held for the first time in the city.

Dismissing suggestions that the event is just a marketing gimmick or brand building exercise, she added, “We don't need to build our brand. We get enough applications every year. But we would like students to join HR College for the commerce stream.”
