High blood pressure, use of tobacco and lack of physical activity are the main factors which could lead to a stroke according to Dr NR Ichaporia, head of the department of the Jehangir Hospital.

Dr Ichaporia was delivering a lecture on ‘preventing and recognising stroke in the community’ in the city on Saturday as a part of the doctor tumchya bhetila programme of the PM Shah Foundation.

Explaining the similarities between a paralytic stroke and a heart attack, Icahporia said, “Both attacks share similar risk factors and have a high mortality rate.’’

Ichaporia delivered the lecture crisply as the audience listened and agreed to his assessment of changing lifestyle and lack of public gardens in the city.

According to Ichaporia, the deficiency of B12 vitamin is more prevalent in vegetarian patients.
"Vegetarians should consume B12 vitamin pills as
deficiency of this vitamin causes memory loss and also increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes,'' he said.
