Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Thursday said that government had taken a serious view of the incident at Mulgaon in Satara district where a Dalit woman was allegedly stripped and beaten by members of an upper caste family.

The woman's son had eloped with a girl from the family, which led to the Monday's assault on her, according to the police. Four persons have been arrested in the case.

Chavan, who hails from Satara district, said that a case had been registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

"Some arrests have been made. I am constantly monitoring the investigation. If the need be, the case will be tried in a fast-track court," Chavan said.
