The central announcement system of the railways helped a 12-year-old girl reunite with her family on Thursday.

Reshma Sawant, a student of class VI and a resident of Ghatkopar (west), was waiting with her blind mother on platform 1 in Dadar.

Reshma was about to board the handicapped compartment with her mother when a man pulled her inside the compartment.

Before anyone could react, the train started and Reshma's mother was left on the platform.

At Matunga, a lady constable heard the girl yelling and got her down from the train along with the man.

"But the man escaped. The constable took her to Dadar police station," said Bhavesh Patel, a local activist and convenor of Manavta, an NGO.

The police - through the central announcement system - asked all stations up to Ghatkopar to make announcements about Reshma.

And soon after the announcement, the girl's family was able to locate her.
