Girl, 17, caught stealing mobiles in Mumbai

A woman railway constable nabbed a 17-year-old undergraduate girl on Tuesday for stealing the mobile phones of commuters travelling in the ladies compartments of local trains during peak hours.

A woman railway constable nabbed a 17-year-old undergraduate girl on Tuesday for stealing the mobile phones of commuters travelling in the ladies compartments of local trains during peak hours. The police recovered 12 stolen mobiles from the accused.

“A resident of Nalasopara, Kavita Chavan (name changed to protect identity) was arrested by the railway police. She has been sent to the children’s remand home in Dongri. She has been stealing mobile phones for the past year and a half,” said senior police inspector PM Karyakarte of Borivli railway police station. He added that commuters whose mobile phones have been stolen between Dahisar and Goregaon stations, should contact the Borivli railway police station.

Boy, 16, held for bicycle theft
A 16-year-old boy was recently held by Versova police for stealing racing cycles from housing societies in and around Andheri.

According to the police, the accused, a Byculla resident, acted alone and would do a recce of the target society before executing his crime. Officials continued that the boy would dress himself in shorts and T-shirts and operate mainly during afternoon hours, when the place was deserted and security guards were lax post-lunch.

Investigation revealed that the boy would enter the society on the pretext of meeting a friend. Once inside, the boy would break the lock of the cycle and pedal away.

Boy, 15, jumps off 2nd floor of remand home
A 15-year-old boy, arrested for stealing motorbikes from the western suburbs of Andheri, reportedly jumped from the second floor of the Dongri remand home after his mother refused to meet him.

A resident of Amboli area in Andheri (West), the boy was arrested last week for stealing at least three motorbikes. Police officials said that the boy was held eight days ago, while   attempting to steal another bike in Versova.

“At the remand home, the the boy got upset after his mother refused to come see him since she was angry with him for indulging in criminal activities,” said senior police inspector Sharad Borse of Versova police station. Sources say that in a fit of rage , he reportedly jumped from the second floor of the remand home, grievously injuring himself. He sustained fractures on both the legs. Officials said he was admitted to a civic hospital for treatment, where he is recuperating at the moment, with his mother at his side.
