A day after Ganesh mandals decided to move the Bombay high court against the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for not doing enough to fill up potholes, the civic body said it will continue to undertake measures in this regard.

Ganeshotsav Samanvay Samiti, the umbrella body of 10,000-odd Ganpati mandals in the city, intends to file a petition in the high court against the BMC over its "incompetence" to fill up potholes ahead of the Ganesh festival.

"We will write a letter to Ganesh mandals and even try and meet them and explain them the obstacles, and the measures we have been taking in this regard. Due to incessant rains potholes come up again so we require dry spell to fill them," civic commissioner Swadhin Kshatriya told reporters.

The ten-day festival begins from Saturday.

"We have decided that even if it is raining we would continue the activity of filling potholes...even if we have to do it three-four times at the same spot," Kshatriya said.

The BMC had assured mandals that potholes will be filled before the festival begins. "Filling potholes on roads leading to immersion will be our top most priority. We would take things on a war footing and ensure roads are in good condition," Kshatriya said.

"It requires about 24 hours of dry spell to complete the work of filling the potholes," he said.
