Mumbai has seen numerous flag marches in troubled times. Come Thursday, however, the city will witness its first peacetime flag march. To mark the first anniversary of 26/11, the police have made elaborate arrangements to showcase their renewed strength and resolve to fight terrorism by organising a flag march from Nariman Point to Girgaum Chowpatty.
The march is being dedicated to civilians who lost their lives in the attacks and to salute the valour of uniformed men who laid down their lives.

Over 500 officers belonging to different units in uniform, armed with newly acquired weapons, will march to martial tunes played by police bands. The march, planned and organised on the lines of the annual Republic Day parade in New Delhi, will also showcase the recently inducted light armoured vehicles and bomb disposal equipment.
On display for the first time will be a contingent of the Force One commando unit, apart from those drawn from various branches of the city police. The rehearsal will be conducted between 6am and 11am on Tuesday and Wednesday. The stretch between Nariman Point and Chowpatty will be closed to traffic at the time. The same traffic
restrictions will be in force on Thursday.
