A driver working for a multi-national company in western suburbs was robbed of the car he was driving and valuables worth Rs4 lakh on Sunday night while he was returning home after dropping a few people from his office. The driver also lost his mobile phone which was in the car and car audio system.

The victim identified as Vikas Narayan Dhanvat, 23 was driving a Tata Indica when he was stopped by a person dressed in a traffic policeman’s uniform at Vikhroli around 10:30pm. The policeman stopped the car and asked Dhanvat where he was going. He then checked his license and vehicle documents after which he told Dhanvat that he wanted to take the car for a ride.

Dhanvat believed him since he thought he was a policeman and gave him the car keys. The accused then took the car towards the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli link road, leaving his bike with Dhanvat.

Dhanvat waited at the spot for the policeman to return for more than an hour and when the policeman did not come back, he approached the Vikhroli police station. At the station, Dhanvat came to know that no traffic policeman had been deployed on duty at the spot where he was robbed and he realised that it was a robber disguised as policeman. He then registered a case.

Vikhroli police are now verifying the number of the bike which the accused left to find out details about its owner and have launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
