Ex-cop claims his phone was tapped

Former police inspector Subhash Kenjale, who was assigned the charge of investigating the alleged narcotics case against Provogue owner Salil Chaturvedi, in which he was later acquitted, has moved the Bombay high court seeking action against retired former State CID chief SPS Yadav and Ramesh Khade, deputy superintendent of police, stating that they had tapped his phone without necessary permissions.

Kenjale has stated in his petition that the inquiry conducted by State CID. In June 2009, the state had ordered an inquiry after some members raised the issue in the state assembly about alleged false implication of Chaturvedi in narcotics case. Initially the inquiry was conducted by SS Navge, deputy superintendent of police, State CID.

“The inquiry was clearly in violation of the legal principle,” states Kenjale’s petition adding “It was breach of principles of natural justice, since the inquiry officer did not offer him any opportunity to put forth his say.”

The division bench has  sought to produce the file on March 9, when the matter will come up for further hearing.
