Errant Western Railway cashier jailed

The incident took place in June 6, 2002. Sitaram Pathak, divisional cashier at Mumbai Central, and Nair who used to distribute cash to railway employees, came to work.

The Mumbai Central Metropolitan Magistrate court on Thursday convicted Madhusudan Nair, 51, a cashier of western railway (WR) to two years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for embezzlement of cash Rs20.85 lakh of WR. In his order, Dr Khwaja Farooq Ahmed, metropolitan magistrate stated, “The accused, will suffer RI for two years and has to pay fine Rs10,000.”

The incident took place in June 6, 2002. Sitaram Pathak, divisional cashier at Mumbai Central, and Nair who used to distribute cash to railway employees, came to work. Nair had lost the bunch of keys of the cage box. After receiving duplicate keys, Niar went in to open the cage box and found that the cage was not sealed. Nair had a doubt for tampering the seal. During the investigation, it was found that the cash on previous day recorded to Rs47,47,822. However, on June 6, Rs26,62,528 was found on record and Rs20,85,294 was found missing from the cash box.

The charge sheet was filed the metropolitan magistrate court for trail.
