Duo arrested for theft of mobile phones worth Rs48 lakh

The VP Road police have arrested two people for allegedly committing mobile phone theft worth Rs48 lakh from a mobile phone shop at Girgaum. The police have also recovered stolen mobile phones worth Rs1 lakh.

The arrested duo has been identified as Mohammad Maheram Mohammad Ismail Shaikh and Mustafa Tafazzul Shaikh.

According to the police, the theft took place at Pepilon Digital shop, situated on JSS Road in Girgaum. On August 18, after the shop owner Ashok Gada shut down his shop and left for home, some unknown persons entered into the shop and stole expensive mobile phones worth Rs48 lakh.

Next day, Gada discovered the theft and lodged a complaint with the police. “On receipt of specific information, we have arrested the duo and have also recovered stolen mobile phones worth Rs1 lakh from them. We are interrogating them further to recover the remaining stolen booty,” said an officer from VP Road police station.
