Domestic helps clean out Rs31 lakh in one day

Two incidents of theft by domestic helps were reported in the western suburbs on Tuesday. Cash and valuables worth over Rs31 lakh were stolen.

In the first incident, Juhu resident Jairam Talreja (56), who had gone out of the city along with his family between November 9 and November 21, was surprised to find cash and valuables worth over  Rs25.5 lakh missing from his home. The valuables and cash were kept in the cupboard locker, the complainant told the police.

The police said Talrejas have four servants. The complainant suspected the hands of his four servants in the robbery. The four servants have been identified as Subedar Gupta, 19, Raju Das, 34, Bholadas Das, 22, and Satish Verma, 25.  The police are planning to question them. “Investigation is on in the case,” said deputy commissioner of police Pratap Dighavkar.

In the other incident, a mall-time actress,  Kirti Singh (35), has registered a case of theft after her maid fled with cash and ornaments worth over Rs 5.59lakh. The incident took place when she was away.

The Andheri resident had gone out on Monday for some work. While she returned on Tuesday, she found that cash and valuables were missing. She registered a case against her maid at the Amboli police station. 

The Amboli police have called the maid for questioning. They are also in the process of questioning her neighbours and others to find out if they have seen anyone entering the house of the victim.
