Four workers were killed after a major fire broke out in a textile mill in Dombivli on Thursday. Firemen rescued 12 workers who were injured.

The fire broke out around 3.30am at Vinayak Textile Process Limited on plot 13 of Phase-III in MIDC at Manpada area of Dombivli.

According to the police, around 67 workers were on duty for the night shift in the factory. Though the exact reason of the fire is yet to be ascertained, primary investigations reveal that the pipeline carrying furnace oil burst due to some technical fault and the oil spread all over in the factory, resulting in the fire.

The 12 injured workers who were rescued have been admitted to a local hospital in Dombivli. Hospital sources told that seven of them were critical. According to fire brigade officials, 10 fire engines along with 12 water tankers doused the fire after battling the flames for six hours.

“Action will be taken against those responsible for the fire,” said Prakash Nilewad, senior inspector from Manapad police station. The workers who died in the fire are Kuldeep Mohli, 38, Nandkumar Jha, 50, Munniuddin Garibnawaz, 54, and Ramprakash Tiwari, 40.
