Even as most city youngsters will wake up on Sunday morning with a spring in their step to celebrate the Friendship Day, ironically, it is the detective agencies who will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Interviews with some of the leading detective agencies in the city revealed that several parents of outstation students had hired their services to keep tabs on their wards' interaction with the opposite sex in the run-up to the Day.

Gautam Giri, general manager, Sharp Detectives told DNA, "With Friendship Day round the corner, our workload increases manifold as parents approach us to investigate the movements of their sons and daughters. They are keen to know if they are in a relationship.''

According to Giri, the target group is between 16 and 25 years and ranges from standard X to MBA students, with even some college students who work part time.

"Our reports are concise and we submit the report directly to the parents who approach us with specific details. Our charges vary based on the requirement of the parents. Hence, giving a price breakdown is impossible,'' Giri said.

Mayur Kinkar, owner, Spy Intelligence Services said, "I am presently handling several cases and most of them pertain to boys. We keep a tab on their movements, videograph their movements and submit it to their parents. Our daily charges range between Rs2,500 and Rs3,000 and we take 10 days to complete our surveillance in some cases.''

According to Kinkar, a detective identifies the person and studies his/her movements on the first day. The next day, undercover agent reports the whereabouts of person through SMSes every two hours. "We change our undercover so that the target does not suspect us. On the following day, we arrange for video clippings and inform the parents,'' Kinkar said.
