Parents of students from Rosary School, who are up in arms against the school management due to alleged irregularities, on Tuesday demanded de-affiliation of the school. At a press conference at Patrakar Bhavan, the parents said, “The school’s audit report clearly shows financial irregularities.”

The parents had sought information regarding the school finances through a query under the Right to Information Act, 2005, and discovered the alleged irregularities. The school has allegedly not undertaken an audit for the last four years.

The parents demanded cancellation of the licence of GV Madane & Company, the chartered accountant of the school, as Madane allegedly helped the school management in the alleged financial fraud.

They also demanded the state government pass the school regulatory bill in the winter session of the state assembly. The parents plan to file a public interest litigation in this regard.

The school, in its audited report for 2003-04 and 2004-05, has shown income of Rs36,25,290, while income for 2005-06 has gone up to Rs92,53,690. The expenses for 2003-04 were shown as Rs31,44,547 and in 2005-06 it was Rs85,49, 939.

Interestingly, the tax deducted at source (TDS) was shown in the audit only for 2003-04, not for other years. Similar irregularities were seen under heads such as photocopy, examination expenses, stationery, repairs and maintenance, advertisements, library, furniture and computers.

Surprisingly, the electricity bill of the school for 2004-05 was just Rs210. The parents alleged they paid a deposit of Rs10,000, which is not shown in the balance sheet of the school. There are around 14,000 students taking education in various Rosary School branches in the city. Apparently, the school paid an amount of Rs22,14,000 towards salary of the staff in 2003-04, while in 2004-05, it was Rs23,15,000 and in 2005-06, it was Rs85,49,000, a sudden rise.

The parents have organised a ghanta-naad at Tilak Chowk (Alka Talkies Chowk) at 11.30 am on Sunday. They have appealed to all schools to participate in the event. “Our aim is to get the government to hear the voice of the parents,” they said.
