A 37-year-old man allegedly killed his wife after strangulating her at their residence in Dahisar on Wednesday. He then tried to make it look like a suicide and escaped from the house.
A 37-year-old man allegedly killed his wife after strangulating her at their residence in Dahisar on Wednesday. He then tried to make it look like a suicide and escaped from the house. Dahisar police have registered a case of murder against the husband and launched a manhunt to nab him.
According to the police, the deceased, Deepti Rodrigues, 22, used to resides in Santosh Nagar, Rawal Pada, Dahisar (East) with her husband Ashley. On Wednesday around 8.30pm, Deepti was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her home.
The incident came into light after her elder sister, Preeti Purohit, came to check on Deepti after she did not respond to any of her phone calls.
“Preeti found the door open and saw Deepthi hanging from the fan. She then informed the neighbours and the body was rushed to the Bhagwati hospital,” said police inspector, G S Randive of the Dahisar police station. “Post mortem reports revealed that she had not died due to the hanging but was suffocated to death,” said Randive.
“We inquired about Ashley but none of his relatives had any idea about his whereabouts. We are now looking for him,” added Randive.
Deepti and Ashley knew each other for over five years and had married against her parents wishes. She informed her parents about their marriage seven to eight month ago.. “Her parents were against her marrying a Christian. But they got married despite of their opposition,” said Randive.
“Deepti parents did not respect to Ashley and only invited Deepti for any celebrations. He then told Deepti to not go to her parent’s house. She, however, continued visiting them,” said another police officer.
Preeti in her statement said that Ashley, who is an auto driver, used to regularly beat up her sister. “We found in the investigation that Deepti had attempted suicide earlier because of their fights over the same issue. The investigation is on and facts will come out after Ashley is arrested” said the police.
