Couple held for stealing debit card

The LT Marg police have arrested a couple who had allegedly stolen a debit card belonging to justice JN Patel’s daughter and did some shopping in April. Interestingly, the lead about this couple was given by another couple who conned people and was nabbed by police a few days ago.   

On Tuesday, the police had arrested Bharatbhai Meghaji alias Mohanbhai Didawala alias Sodasa, 45, and his wife Sapnaben alias Sangeeta Sodasa, 40. 

According to police sources, on April 22, the couple had allegedly stolen a debit card from the Pallavi Kothari’s purse at Mangaldas Market. They had bought goods worth Rs80,000 by using the card the same day at Big Bazaar in Lower Parel.  

“The moment transactions were done, Kothari had received intimation from the bank, following which she learnt that her card had gone missing. When Kothari went to Big Bazaar and went through the CCTV footages, she was shocked to realise that the couple that had done shopping from his card was same who was standing near her at Mangaldas Market,” said a police officer.  

Kothari then lodged a complaint with the NM Joshi Marg police station. The case was then transferred to LT Marg police. The police sources said that the LT Marg police showed CCTV footages of the suspects in the Kothari’s case to the a recently arrested couple, Chandrakant Parmar and Poonam Kodekar, who immediately identified them. 

“They told us that the suspects in the CCTV footages are known to them and are residents of Sardar Nagar in Ahmedabad. Accordingly, a police team left for Ahmedabad and nabbed them. We have also recovered the goods bought by them using Kothari’s card. They are in police custody till August 20,” the officer said.
