Cops quiz 10 over senior citizen’s murder in Malad

The official of the crime branch and local police are questioning more than 10 people in the connection with the murder of senior citizen, Sarojben Patel, who was killed in her resident at Vishal society in Malad (West) on Friday.

“We are on the right track and have got few leads so most probably the case will crack soon. More than 10 people are been questioned including the maid and her boyfriend, the building watchmen and labourers who were working in the building renovation work,” said crime branch officer.

“After the investigation, it is clear that the accused are well-versed with the schedule of the deceased and some known person are involved in the crime, ” said assistant commissioner of police J Hargude.

The police said Patel’s husband Ramanlal, 72, is in shock so it is yet not clear how much cash or jewellery are missing. 

“The police are questioning the family members to know  who entered in the room before or after the incident,” said a crime branch officer .

Patel was murdered when she was alone in her flat in Vishal Cooperative Housing Society on SV Road on Friday. Patel’s son lives in a flat on the same floor. At the time of incident, Ramanlal had gone for a check up. When he came back around 3pm, he rang the bell but did not get any response and assumed that she was sleeping and went to sleep in his son's flat. Around 7.30pm, his younger son peeped inside the flat from window and saw her dead.

Sources said a family member was being questioned late on Sunday evening in connection with the murder.
