Former Congress MLA Sambhajirao Kunjir was beaten up by party workers belonging to a rival faction during the process for the election of the Pune district Congress president in Pune today.

It was a free-for-all in the Congress Bhavan when workers, allegedly belonging to the Sanjay Jagtap group hailing from Punandar taluka, attacked Kunjir by hurling chairs. The scuffle broke out when efforts were being made to elect the party's Pune district president unanimously.

Kunjir later alleged that the attack on him was pre-meditated but denied that he would be lodging a police complaint in the matter, saying it was for the party to initiate action against those responsible for the unruly behaviour.
