A group of Congress activists ransacked their party’s office in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Friday to protest against a derogatory visual on the Facebook wall of Aba Bagul, group leader of the Congress in the PMC.

The group of about 20 activists gathered on the third floor of the PMC building at 4.30 pm and took out a march in the corridors to the Congress party office.

They were carrying Congress party flags and were raising slogans in support of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.
They barged into the party office, where they threw chairs around, threw copies of the letter they had sent to party leaders, and smashed a a glass door. The group dispersed within minutes, continuously raising slogans.

Bagul, was in the office, kept pleading with them to tell him what their problem was. Bagul alleged that it was a conspiracy against him as the attack was led by Congress office-bearer Ganesh Lagas, who has support of a senior leader in the
city unit.

Lagas, who led the attack, is secretary of the city unit of Congress and president of ward no 116 (Parvati Industrial Estate) of the party. He threw copies of letters and printout of the Facebook account, sent to Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi and president of the Maharashtra pradesh Congress committee, Manikrao Thakare.

Lagas said in the letter, “Please find a photo enclosed in which it is shown that Soniyaji Madam is feeding cake to terrorist Ajmal Kasab and our Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sitting aside.

Surprisingly, this photo is attached and comments posted by a senior Congress leader who is a corporator as well as opposition leader in the PMC (sic).’’

Bagul said that he does not use his Facebook account personally, and he was not aware of any such
photograph on its wall.

A police officer attached with the cyber cell told DNA, “We have not received any complaint in
this regard.”
