Chain snatchings: Three in Pune police net

With the arrest of three suspects, including a Kalewadi-based jeweller, the Khadki police claim to have solved 14 chain-snatching cases.

The police have recovered gold ornaments weighing 321.52 gm valued at Rs90,000.

The arrested people have been identified as Kiran Shamlal Pardeshi, 24, Yogesh Prakash Mangare, 19, both residents of Pimpri Gaon, and Ritesh Mansukhlal Rathod, proprietor of Satyam Jewellers in Kalewadi.

While Rathod has been granted bail, the other suspects have been remanded in police custody till January 29.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by assistant police inspector Shriram Paul of detection branch of the Khadki police nabbed the suspects on Aundh Road on January 17.

Deputy commissioner of police, Sanjay Jadhav, said, “On January 17, the suspects were spotted observing women at isolated spots on Aundh Road.”

“The duo would targeted women walking down isolated spots, took them by surprise, snatched their jewellery and fled. The stolen jewellery was later sold to Rathod,” he said.”

According to Jadhav, Pardeshi was earlier arrested in a vehicle theft registered at the Pimpri police station.

Jadhav added, “Of the 14 solved cases, four were registered with the Khadki police, four with the Sangvi police, two with the
Bhosari police and one each at Pimpri, Nigdi, Yerawada and Vishrantwadi police stations.
