More than 96 hours after 11-year-old Amir Siddhique went missing from Sion hospital, his family is still searching for him.

Amir, a resident of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, is missing from July 27. He had been admitted to Sion hospital on July 25 and was undergoing treatment for weak liver and diarrhoea.

“We had come to Mumbai for Amir’s treatment. He was not able to walk because his liver was weak. I was with him in the hospital. On July 27, I went to the canteen at 6.45 am to get food for him. When I came back, he was not in bed,” said Mushrat (25), Amir’s brother.

Initially, Mushrat thought that the hospital staff had taken Amir for some tests. He was shocked to find another patient occupying his brother’s bed. “Within an hour, another patient was occupying that bed. That’s when I approached the higher authorities,” said Mushrat.

Mushrat met Dr Sandhya Kamat, the dean of the hospital, “She asked us to give her 48 hours to find Amir. It has been more than 96 hours and there is no trace of my brother,” said Mushrat.
Mushrat has approached Abu Azmi, Samajwadi Party MLA, to help find his brother.

“Amir was like a child to us. We have approached police but they have only registered a missing complaint. How can anyone vanish from a hospital like this? The hospital is involved as they have given the bed to another patient an hour after Amir went missing,” said Mushrat.

Dr Sandhya Kamat, dean of Sion hospital said, “We have registered a police complaint. There is nothing more I can talk about.”

Police inspector Ashok Rahate, Sion police station said, “We have registered a case of missing person. We have circulated the photograph and a detailed description of the missing boy to all the police stations across city and district police headquarters,” said Rahate.

The CCTV footage collected from the hospital showed the boy leaving the hospital at around 7am on July 27.
