Ujjwal Nikam, special public prosecutor in the BPO employee, Jyotikumari Choudhary, gang-rape and murder case, on Saturday brought to the notice of the court that Jyotikumari’s blood stains were found on the back seat of the car and semen stains of the two accused were found on her clothes, for which the defence had provided no explanation.

Nikam completed his final arguments by putting on record 14 circumstances to prove the guilt of the accused. He narrated the circumstances sequentially, beginning with the fact that on November 1, 2007 Jyotikumari (22) was last seen alive at 10.15 pm in the company cab with the two accused, Purushottam Borate and Pradeep Kokade.

The next day, the police patil of Gahunje village found her body. Nikam referred to maps to show that it took at least 30 minutes to go from Pashan, where the accused picked up Jyotikumari, to Gahunje, where they allegedly raped and murdered her.

“This fact tallies with the phone conversation records, which show that Jyotikumari was talking to her boyfriend from the moment she sat in the cab till around 11.01 pm, when the call was abruptly disconnected,” he informed the court.

Nikam said that as per the maps, the time required to travel from Gahunje to Sus Road, where Jyotikumari’s office colleague was picked up, is 25 minutes.

But the colleague said that the two accused came to pick him up at around 12.45 am and were late by more than 2 hours.

“Considering that the duo left Gahunje at 12.20 am and reached the colleague’s home 25 minutes later, it is proved that the offence of rape and murder was caused between 11 pm and 12.20 am,” Nikam said.

Defence advocate Atul Patil will begin his arguments on Wednesday.
