The death toll of the Mumbai serial blasts on July 13 has gone upto 19, when diamond trader Baburam Shivdas, 42, succumbed to his injuries on Friday night. Saturday evening saw his entire society at Raja Ramdeo Park in Bhayandar east rally around to comfort his grieving family during his last rights.

Shivdas lived with his mother, wife and son Abhishek (16). According to neighbours DNA spoke to, Shivdas was a very good and loving person. “We still don’t believe that he is no more. We thought that he will survive from this blast but he left us unexpectedly,” they said.

A diamond ornament job worker, Shivdas had gone to Pancharatna in answer to a call for work from a diamond trader. He informed his wife and left home for Pancharatna, saying that he would not return empty handed. However he got critically injured in the blast at the main gate of Pancharatna. Before falling unconscious, he managed to call a co-worker and informed him about his injury. Police rushed him to Saifee hospital where he lay in a coma for two days, before succumbing on Friday night.

He is the third person to have died from the twin city of Mira Bhayandar in Wednesday’s serial blasts in Mumbai. Himmat Ghadia and Bhupat Navadia-Patel are the other two victims.
Meanwhile Namdeo Ghulup, 25, regained consciousness after three days of being in critical state at Harkisondas Hospital. This news was received with much relief of his wife and relatives, stationed outside the hospital. Ghulup was near the Opera house when the blasts occurred. Both his legs have been amputated, one from the hip and the other from the knee.

At JJ Hospital, Ruta Joshi’s husband Prashant is lying in critical care unit after having undergone one neurological procedure. “I spoke to him at around 6pm and he told me that he would come home soon. When I called him later, his number was off. Then a doctor told me that he is injured,” said Ruta.

“I don’t know what will happen now, his office is at Abdul Rehman street. If he had not gone to Zaveri bazar that day, this never would have happened,” she said.

Shripal Mojpura, 36, is also admitted in one of the three ICUs at Harkisondas Hospital. He has severe skull fracture and doctors are very cautious about his health status. “The fractured skull bones have gone deep into the brain and damaged it significantly. We are monitoring his conditions,” said a senior doctor from the hospital.
