Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday called on its cadre to stay united and defeat the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the civic body and district council elections in Maharashtra.
Calling the state government arrogant, BJP state president Sudhir Mungantiwar alleged: "This government keeps making promises before the elections and breaking them after the elections. We will defeat the Congress and the NCP across the state this time."
In its executive meeting, which began on Saturday and continued on Sunday, BJP moved political, agricultural, and civic resolutions. The political resolution flayed the Congress-NCP government for its failure to curb corruption and inflation, and in its inability to stop farmer suicide.
On civic issues, the BJP said there was a lack of planned development in the cities, while the agricultural resolution claimed that the farmers' package promised to the cotton, soya and paddy farmers had not reached the intended beneficiaries.
Mungantiwar also dismissed talk about MNS leader Raj Thackeray meeting BJP leader Nitin Gadkari and Mohan Bhagwat of the RSS. “Friendships transcend politics, which is why Thackeray met Gadkari and Bhagwat," Mungantiwar said.
BJP spokesperson Madhu Chavan questioned the timing of the announcement in the change in DC rules.
“For the last 10 years, four CMs have spoken about changing the DC rules to make them more transparent and nothing has happened. So what was the necessity for the CM to announce the amended DC rule just an hour before the state election commission announced the election dates.”
