India’s No 1 media group Bhaskar, co-promoters of DNA, launched its first Marathi daily ‘Divya Marathi’ in Aurangabad on Saturday. This is the group’s 60th edition across the country. The group publishes newspapers in four languages, including Hindi, English, Gujarati and Marathi.

Union home minister P Chidambaram attended the programme as the chief guest. He advised that the new daily should inculcate the values of Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Phule and Dr BR Ambedkar, and also keep a distance between news and views.

While congratulating the chairman of Bhaskar group, Rameshchandra Agrawal, for his new venture in Maharashtra, Chidambaram said launching the 60th edition of a group is a new record and should be recorded in the Guiness Book of World Records.

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Chavan also attended the programme. He expressed strong views on the issue of black money and sought help from Agrawal to uproot corruption through his newspapers. He also suggested that the Parliament and assembly elections should be conducted simultaneously and the election expenses should be given to the candidates by the Election Commission.

Chief minister of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan praised the efforts of Bhaskar group for launching a Marathi daily and assured wholehearted support of the Marathi readers in the state.
Union rural development minister Vilasrao Deshmukh welcomed the launching of the daily in Aurangabad, which is situated in the backward Marathwada region, while Union minister for power Sushilkumar Shinde praised the Bhaskar group for launching a Marathi daily to serve the people of the state.

Former Lok Sabha speaker and Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi said the daily should carry on the tradition of impartial journalism of the Bhaskar group. State PWD minister Chaggan Bhujbal delivered a long speech on the ‘in and out’ of media activities and said he prefers print media because it can carry a clarification if the news is wrong. However, there is no such chance of clarification in the electronic media, he said.

Guardian minister of Aurangabad Balasaheb Thorat and local MP Chandrakant Khaire also attended the launch function, besides other dignitaries.
