Raj Shroff, the son-in-law of Union power minister Sushilkumar Shinde, on Wednesday refuted allegations of cheating in a land deal, as alleged by an Aundh-based businessman in his private complaint in a city court.

In a statement to DNA, Shroff said the land in Balewadi was purchased by him in a legally transparent manner and he is the bona fide owner of the property.

A city businessman, Ganesh Nanasaheb Gaikwad, has accused Shroff of cheating and attempting to illegally take possession of land. Following the complaint, first class judicial magistrate PK Deshpande on Monday directed the Chatuhshrungi police to probe the matter and submit a report by June 30.

Shroff said a public notice was issued by his advocate regarding the purchase of the land on SNo 41/2 measuring one hectare in Balewadi village in 2005.

He said on February 16, 2005, the development-cum-sale deed was signed between him and the land owners: Chindha Genba Balwadkar (along with family members), Bhagwan Genba Balwadkar (along with family members) and Anusuya Genba Balwadkar.

“The power of attorney was also signed and a total consideration of Rs53,82,000 was paid to the owners,” he said. Shroff alleged that on April 2010, Bhagwan Balwadkar and his two sisters illegally sold a portion of the land to NS Gaikwad Housing Corporation.

There was an altercation between Shroff’s and Gaikwad’s men and portions of the fencing and compound wall was broken and a complaint was made to the Chatuhshrungi police station on May 18, 2011. An FIR was registered against three original owners and Gaikwad etc, the statement said. “A civil suit has already been filed by me before the Civil Judge Senior Division Pune,” Shroff said.
