On the one hand, Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi has decided to end his daily squabbles with the MNS and the Shiv Sena in the assembly. On the other hand,
he has made up his mind to move the Supreme Court with the demand that the assembly agenda be issued in Hindi.

On Thursday, Azmi said that he has realised that the face-off with the MNS and the Shiv Sena has made his party workers suffer. “Twenty one SP workers from Govandi are behind bars for the last four days on the charge of stealing Rs495. The people I represent are poor and live on daily wages. They cannot afford the violence that is taking place on the streets. I want to put an end to this,” he told DNA.

However, Azmi has clarified that his demand for the use of Hindi in the assembly will continue. “I am pleading to the SC to direct the state legislature to issue the agenda in Hindi.

“I have been told by the officials from the state legislature that they don’t have provisions to print the agenda in any language other than Marathi and English. The central government has a separate committee for the promotion of Hindi. It is surprising then that neither the Centre has intervened in the matter, and nor is the state government accepting my request,” he said.

While apologising for his comments on Bal Thackeray, and for hurting the sentiments of the people who admire the saffron leader, Azmi also recalled similar remarks made by Raj Thackeray. “If the Shiv Sainiks feel insulted by my mention of Thackeray’s old age, what about Raj calling Jaya Bachchan buddhi (old woman) a few months ago,” he asked.
