City-based organisations conducted campaigns and rallies to spread awareness about diabetes on Monday to observe World Diabetes Day across the city.

Diabetes Care and Research Foundation organised a rally from Sarasbaug to Tilak Smarak Mandir consisting of around 1,500 people. It was attended by 12 sports icons, including Chandu Borde, Mir Ranjan Negi, Michelle Kakade and Abhijit Kunte among others. An exhibition was also held where 22 stalls conducted free blood sugar check-ups.

Children from BK Birla School took part in ‘Walk for Diabetic Free Pune’ conducted by Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital in various parts of Pune. The students wore T-shirts and caps with the slogan ‘Diabetes: More you know, safer you are’ and spread awareness about the causes and effects of diabetes.

While Chellaram Diabetes Institute (CDI) conducted  ‘Walk for Diabetes’ for which more than 300 people joined in. In a similar event conducted by Sanjay Gandhi Patient Club, over 110 people joined the walkathon organised by them. The club will continue to conduct free blood sugar check-ups at their Navi Peth and Somwar Peth clinics till November 20. They will also conduct ECG tests at the nominal rate of Rs25 till the end of the week.

Jehangir Wellness Centre will offer free lifestyle counselling for diabetics and high risk patients from November 17 to 23 at their wellness centre. The counselling sessions will take place from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm on weekdays and 9.00 am to 11.30 am on Sunday.
