After India won the World Cup, the police could not stop people from carrying out processions and celebrating on streets. They had to force food stall owners, who on usual days remain open till late, to close down.

Food stall owners in the western suburbs like, Andheri, Juhu, Vakola and few other places hired autorickshaws and started selling packed food by roaming around on the roads.

“After being part of a procession carried to celebrate the Indian team’s victory, we were thirsty and very hungry but could not find any place which would remain open at late nights usually. It was then that I was told by a passerby that the autorickshaw parked at the opposite side of the road was selling biryani and packets,” said Yogesh Shah from Juhu.

“The usual stalls which sell egg omelette and bread till late were all shut. After 10 minutes, an autorickshaw came up with a person in it. He was the same guy who runs the stall. But to hoodwink the police, he had hired the autorickshaw and kept the business on. When I asked if I would get an omelette, he handed me a packet,” said Mehul Kajaria from Andheri.
