In another case of rash driving, the 23-year old son of a diamond trader was arrested for killing one person and severely injuring two others at Malabar Hill on Saturday night.

The incident took place around 9.30pm near Sagar Kunj Building at Rungta Lane. Walkeshwar resident Shreyas Sunil Dani was heading towards Napean Sea Road in his Hyundai when he lost control.

“The speeding vehicle first hit pedestrians Shyam Kadam and Mohan Pamak before banging into a taxi and a parked car,” said a police officer from the Malabar Hill police station.

Kadam, 40, a resident of JP Nagar, Walkeshwar, died in the accident. Pamak, 50, and taxi driver Rajesh Pardesi were injured. Dani escaped unhurt. “Dani’s car was completely damaged so he couldn’t escape. His medical reports indicate that he was not drunk,” the officer said.

“Dani was placed under arrest on charges of rash and negligent driving, and culpable homicide not amounting to murder under relevant sections of the IPC and Indian Motor Vehicles Act. He was later granted bail of Rs25,000,” the officer said.
