Continuing its 39-year-old tradition, Adarsh Ramlila Samiti will organise the Ramlila at Shivaji Park this year too.

The Bombay high court on Wednesday granted permission to the samiti to organise the Ramlila on condition that they will not exceed the decibel levels.

A division bench of chief justice Mohit Shah and justice Roshan Dalvi allowed the samiti to use the ground from September 26 to October 6.

The samiti had approached the high court seeking permission to organise the Ramlila at Shivaji Park and use loudspeakers. They also wanted access to the ground from September 20 so that they could practise a few days before Navratri.

But, the court suggested that they should try and wind up the Ramlila in eight days instead of the usual 10 days.

The petition was opposed by Wecom Trust on whose public interest litigation Shivaji Park was declared as a silence zone in 2010.

The trust’s counsels, V Tulzapurkar and Sandeep Aole, said that even on any regular day the noise level at Shivaji Park is more that the prescribed limit.
