The political parties in Maharashtra had varied reaction to Anna Hazare’s fast against corruption in New Delhi. Sena MP and party spokesperson Sanjay Raut welcomed Anna’s agitation saying that Balasaheb Thackeray has been supporting it from day one.

“Everyone has been agitating as per his own methods and Anna is fasting for it. We have been doing it through protests. The country is being eaten up by the dragon of corruption and everyone should protest it”, he said. BJP MLC Vinod Tawde felt that Anna’s fast is the victory of democracy. “The government’s move will help restore people’s confidence in the political system, which has been dwindling. The government’s positive responsive to the agitation will go a long way in strengthening democracy,” he said.

Congress general secretary Sanjay Dutt believed that the credit should be given to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and prime minister Manmohan Singh for showing such large-heartedness.

“UPA took the first step in this by implementing the RTI Act. All this only proves that the Congress is determined to weed out corruption from the system, he said. Congress MLC Bhai Jagtap seconded his opinion. “The politicians are always blamed for being corrupt, but even the corruption by the bureaucracy needs to be hammered upon” he stressed.
