While passers-by helped some injured victims of the road accident in Pune, others were not so lucky. The accident took place outside the state transport bus depot and near Vega Centre on Shankarshet Road in Pune.

Two motorcyclists told DNA the victims did not receive help easily. But, a commerce student was rushed to the hospital on time by samaritans. “I am happy I escaped with little injury,” said Sagar (name changed on request).

“My cousin Santosh and I stopped at a signal  on Shankarshet Road. We saw a state transport bus coming in the wrong direction. The bus crushed two autorickshaws and rammed into an Innova car that was in front of us. The car turned 360 degrees and pushed us aside. We had to jump from the bike immediately. This spinning car saved us.”

Santosh, Sagar’s cousin who was also injured in the accident works as a marketing executive in Pune.

He told DNA, “I was riding the bike and before I could understand what the bus driver was up to, Sagar and I jumped off my bike. As I got up, my right hand went numb and there was a swelling.”
Sagar was bleeding profusely as he had cut his right foot. Santosh recalled, “I requested many people to take Sagar to the hospital, but most people refused. Finally, someone dropped Sagar at Ranka Hospital.”

Santosh has fractured his right wrist. He explained how even fruit sellers at the accident site were injured. “The fruit carts were damaged and some people were lying on the road.”

Officials from the state transport corporation visited us at the hospital and made us fill up forms, saying they will pay the hospital bills, said Santosh.

Near Vega Centre,  Sneh Ganga, Ritu Dodeja, 20, a second year student of Brihan Maharashtra Commerce of College (BMCC) sustained a head injury resulting in a swelling in the brain.
According to her father, Sanjay Dodeja, resident of Shankarshet Road, passers-by rushed her to a nearby hospital for first aid and then to Sahyadri Hospital.

“She is safe because of these people and I am thankful. She is conscious and is being kept under observation for 48 hours in the ICU,” Dodeja said.
