In an unfortunate incident, Dady N Adenwalla, 82, who served the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) for over 15 years as its chief stipendiary steward, allegedly fell to his death while he was watering plants in the balcony of his fourth-floor residence at Churchgate on Monday morning.

“In the incident that took place at around 9.15am, Adenwalla was watering the plants in the gallery of his flat in Roxsana building on MK Road at Churchgate, while his 49-year-old daughter was having breakfast,” said an officer from the Azad Maidan police station.

Adenwalla’s daughter heard a loud noise and came to the balcony, only to find her father on the ground below, lying in a pool of blood. He was then rushed to the hospital.

A known name in the racing business, Adenwalla was a champion trainer under whom big names like the famed Pesi Shroff apprenticed. In his later years, he was a member of the RWITC’s appeal board. His daughter, who stayed with him, works in the catering business.

“After the building’s watchman informed the police of the incident, we went to the spot and took charge of the body in the building compound. We first rushed Adenwalla to Bombay Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The body was then taken to GT Hospital,” said senior police inspector Deepak Dhole.

Four of Adenwalla’s six servants were in the house at the time of the incident, while his driver was outside the building, Dhole said, adding that the police do not suspect any foul play as of now.
