A 60-year old man was arrested by the Trombay police on Sunday for allegedly raping his 9-year-old granddaughter at her Trombay home two weeks ago.

Hari Ganu Ingale, a farmer from Buldhana, was booked under section 376 (Rape) IPC by the Trombay police. He is to be produced before the court on Monday, said a police official. He added that Ingale had been staying with the family for the past two months and is the step father of victim’s father.

During the interrogation, he revealed he had raped the victim at her residence, 15 days ago, when her parents were out for work.

The incident came to light on Saturday when the victim complained of acute pain in her abdomen and private parts.  The victim’s mother took her to the Shatabdi Hospital in Chembur where the doctors confirmed that the victim was raped.

The victim also told her parents that her grandfather had taken her in the adjoining house and raped her and had warned her not to tell anyone. The girl, scared, refrained from mentioning the incident till she was reeling with pain.

The girl is a class four student in a local municipal school. Her father works as a painting contractor while her mother is an employee at a private company in Vashi in Navi Mumbai, added the police officer.
