55 more train stuntmen caught in special drive, fines slapped

The Mumbai railway police nabbed 55 persons, including 23 minors, for performing stunts in running local trains in the past two days — Wednesday and Thursday.

The police have launched a special drive against those who not only create a nuisance in locals but also making endanger their own lives by performing stunts.

On Tuesday, 13-year-old Zahid Ansari was performing a stunt in a running local when he was hit by a railway pole between Masjid and CST.

"A resident of Tanwar Nagar in Mumbra, Ansari miraculously survived. He has fractured his jaw and is undergoing treatment at St George Hospital," said senior inspector Ashok Kumar Jadhav of CST railway police.

Jadhav said the railway police have registered a case under section 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) IPC and section 176 (obstructing level crossing) Indian Railway Act against Ansari.

Mumbai railway police commissioner Prabhat Kumar conducted a special drive across the 17 railway police stations in the railway commissionerate since August 31 to put a brake on  train stuntmen.

"The Wadala railway police led by senior inspector Jitendra Rathod nabbed 31 people, including 23 minors, in the past two days. The detained minors were aged between 12 and 17 years. They are residents of Wadala, Bandra, Govandi and Mankhurd slum colonies," said DCP (Central Railway Zone) GS Bhandare of Mumbai railway police.

“All the minors were sent to Dongri Observation Home. The others were released after being fined Rs1,200 each and later sent to CST railway court. The CST railway police caught five persons,” he added.

Bhandare also appealed to  commuters that if they found anyone performing stunt on local trains, they should contact the GRP Control room 022-23759283/022-3759201 or GRP Helpline 9833331111.
