34-year-old sodomised, murdered in Pune

A day after the horrifying incident of an 8-year-old boy sodomised in Chinchwad, the Swargate police arrested seven suspects on Tuesday for allegedly doing this inhuman act on a 34-year-old man before killing him.

The suspects have been identified as Arif alias Saddam Babu Shaikh (20), Rafiq Afzal Shaikh (19), Taufiq Musa Mankar (19), Sadiq Rashid Ansari (19), Wasim alias Basi Afzal Sayyed (19), Zuber Khuddus Qureshi (20) and Mehtab Ismail Shaikh (19) of Kasewadi slum.

The suspects were booked under sections 302 (punishment for murder), 377 (unnatural offences) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC (1860).

The police found the body of Ravindra Laxman Deshmukh, a resident of Dhankavdi, near a canal with multiple injuries on head, neck, chest and stomach on December 4.

“We cannot disclose all the details at this juncture but are looking at all angles as the victim was sodomised before being killed,” senior police inspector Rajkumar Gaikwad told DNA. He said the suspects were nabbed with the help of call detector as one of them was using the victim’s cellphone by inserting his own sim card. The court of judicial magistrate (first class) remanded all the suspects in police custody till December 13.

Five-year RI for abetting wife’s suicide
A 38-year-old man, Jaywant Keshav Parte from Bhor taluka, was sentenced to five-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) on Tuesday for physical and mental harassment and abetment of his wife’s suicide.

The victim’s father, Sadashiv Navalu Parkhande, had filed a police complaint. According to the prosecution, Ashalata (35) got married to the convict in 1990 and they have two daughters and one son.

After the marriage, Parte got addicted to alcohol and started physically and mentally abusing his wife.

About five years prior to the incident, the convict asked for Rs20,000 for starting a flour mill and a grocery store. Later, he started harassing and demanding more money from the victim.

Fed up with the harassment, Ashalata consumed poison and committed suicide on September 9, last year.

Additional public prosecutor, Ujwala Raskar, examined seven witnesses including the convict’s father, Keshav, and his daughter Neelam. The court also fined the convict with Rs2,000.

7 murder suspects in police custody
A local court on Wednesday remanded seven suspects in police custody till December 10 for allegedly murdering a 25-year-old youth in Chapekarnagar during the Navratri celebrations this year.
The victim Sunny Dharampal Tusam’s uncle Mahipal Tusam had filed a complaint against the suspects — Sandeep Raghunath Salegaonkar, 26, Shailesh Pardeshi, 19, Nitin Chaphalkar, 28, and Uttam alias Shridhar Salegaonkar, 22, of Chapekarnagar; Umesh Sudam Salegaonkar, 25, of Sus Road; and Ravindra Maruti Salegaonkar, 31, and Arun Salegaonkar of Model Colony.

According to the prosecution, Sunny had a brawl with the Salegaonkars during a Navratri festival. Later, he was intercepted by the Salegaonkars and their accomplices near the Cosmos Bank ATM in Bhosalenagar while he was going home on his
motorcycle.

Three of the suspects attacked Sunny with weapons and injured him. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the Sancheti Hospital.
Seeking the suspects’ police custody, assistant public prosecutor Harishchandra Doiphode told the court that the weapons used in the crime need to be recovered and blood samples of the suspects have to be collected for further investigations.
