A Kandivli murder case which remained undetected for 20 years has now been solved by the city crime branch. The case was closed by the Kandivli police in December 1991, after the accused remained untraceable.

The arrested person, identified as Afroz Khan, a native of Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh, was a weapon supplier. According to the joint commissioner of police, crime, Himanshu Roy, on May 13, Khan was arrested following a tip-off that Khan along with his associate would be arriving near the Raghuleela Mall to deliver firearms to a local gang. The police seized seven firearms from Khan and it was learnt that he works for UP-based dreaded Aslam gang.

“Khan revealed that he was staying in Mumbai and had fled the city after he murdered his colleague in February 1991. He admitted that, he used to work in one Roshan Bakery in Kandivli and after a heated argument with his colleague Zubair Babu Khan, over money issue, he murdered him and fled,” Roy said.

He added that the case was investigated by the Kandivli police, who had also visited Barabanki to trace Khan, but had closed the case in December 1991, as Khan remained untraceable. Khan would be handed over to the Kandivli police for further investigation.
