Mumbai: 19-year-old stabs to death 27-year-old girlfriend for going to bar after namaaz

A 27-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her 19-year-old boyfriend at the Andheri Foot Over Bridge (FOB) on Wednesday night. The accused, who was arrested by DN Nagar police, claimed he was upset about the woman going to work in a bar after offering namaaz. The Andheri metropolitan court remanded the accused till March 16.

According to police, Anna Bibi Shaikh, 27, worked with Gold Mine Bar, and is a native of Jharkhand. Bibi was in a relationship with Kissmat Shaikh, 19, also a native of Jharkhand. On Wednesday night, Kissmat, armed with a chopper, approached Bibi on Andheri FOB and stabbed her. He also assaulted the male friend who was with her at the time of the incident.

"The victim was deserted by her husband, who is a dreaded criminal and is now behind bars in Jharkhand. The woman was allegedly involved in an illicit affair with the accused; this infuriated him. Also, the accused claimed that the victim offered namaaz before heading to the bar, which he claimed is against the religion. This pushed him to take the extreme step," said a DN Nagar police officer.

Parmeshwar Ganame, Senior Inspector, DN Nagar police station, said, "We have arrested the accused under section 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. The court has remanded him to police custody till March 16."

"The accused is changing his statements frequently. Post mortem reports reveal that the victim was stabbed more than 20 times. The body has been kept at Cooper Hospital and the family members have been informed about the incident," said Ganame.
